Yamaha Marching Tuba Shield Review

I purchased this so as to protect the bottom bow of a used Yamaha 321 tuba that I recently bought. I wanted to make sure that I could do anything possible to prevent denting of this tuba, which is fairly common for a used instrument. Not only can denting look bad, it can affect the sound of the horn when playing. Fortunately, this tuba's bottom bow was in great shape with no dents!
Actually, this product was designed for those who play a Yamaha marching tuba, like you see in drum and bugle corps shows. I have seen pictures of this being used from a friend of mine on Facebook who plays tuba (or commonly known as contra) in drum and bugle corps. I figured since this shield was made by Yamaha, it would fit my upright tuba. When I did put this on my horn, it fitted on perfectly!
There is another purpose for this item. It serves as a pad to "raise" the tuba so that the mouthpiece is at the same level as my mouth and lips. I'm a tall person and it's been an issue for me to play a tuba at the same level. Without this shield/pad, I have to slouch down to get to the mouthpiece. This can cause pain in my upper back and neck. With this attached though, I don't have to worry too much. Everything is pretty much leveled. Playing it now is much more comfortable and easier!
I highly recommend any tall person, or any person in general, who plays a Yamaha 321 tuba to get this pad/shield and attach it to their tuba! It's easy to put on and take off. Well worth the investment.
Thank you Amazon for having this item and making it easy for me to purchase it!
