(More customer reviews)After looking to put together a small stereo system to use to play music from my computer and iPod the owner of a stereo shop I was looking in said I should listen to the Yamaha MSP5 monitors that he had. He explained that I wouldn't have to buy an amp since the speakers are powered, i.e. each speaker has internal amplifiers, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter. I was bit skeptical at first because it seemed like too simple of a solution, but once he had them hooked up and powered on I was sold on them. They're made for recording studios but suit home use perfectly fine. They have a very good soundstage for such a small speaker and are extremely detailed. They are loud and don't distort. If you care about music you'll probably want to have high bit rate rips of music because these speakers will make the higher quality shine and expose the poor sound quality of low bit rate rips. They even have balanced XLR connections for a better sound quality connection option. I couldn't be happier with them. I'm even thinking of having a case built for them so I can carry them around when I travel so I can have amazing sound with me all the time. I haven't heard what they sound like with the matching subwoofer but imagine that would be impressive as well.
